What is so special about champagne?
Champagne is the most distinguished sparkling wine in the world, made only from grapes cultivated on chalky soils in Champagne, France’s most northern wine region, about an hour east of Paris. A bottle of Champagne is the priciest sparkling wine on the planet. Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunie are the only permitted grape varieties. Only Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunie grapes are allowed.
You can find a variety of Champagne at Fortnumandmason.
Fortnum’s Brut Réserve Champagne Gift Box, Louis Roederer
When it comes to Brut Premier, Louis Roederer uses a blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier that is matured in wood barrels and crafted from the three Champagne grape varietals. Approximately 40 percent Pinot Noir, 40 percent Chardonnay and 20 percent Pinot Meunier make up the wine’s composition.
Reims-based Louis Roederer is a French champagne producer. After his father renamed the company in 1776, Louis Roederer inherited it and renamed it in 1833. It is one of the world’s few remaining independent champagne houses run by a family (champagne house)

Blanc de Blancs is a white Champagne made solely from white grapes, usually Chardonnay, and is the most expensive of the Champagnes. There are several types of Champagne available, but this is the most expensive. Monovarietal wines are those that are made only from one or more red wine grape varieties – typically Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier – and are produced in small quantities.
Blanc de Blancs is a term that is only ever used in the context of Champagne and its production. Blanc de blancs is a term used to describe champagne made entirely from white grapes, most commonly Chardonnay, and manufactured only for this purpose. Although Pinot Blanc and Arbane are also permitted in the appellation, as are a number of other grape varieties, these grape varieties are less popular than the other grape varieties in the region.
