All About Sky View Observatory

The Sky View Observatory, located in Seattle’s Columbia Centre, should be one of your first stops in the Emerald City. Plan your trip to the San Juan Islands, including time on the Great Wheel, time spent shopping in Pike Place Market, time spent hiking in the Cascades, time spent taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island, and time spent cruising Elliott Bay.

The 73rd floor of Columbia Centre is home to Sky View Observatory. It is the Pacific Northwest’s highest public observation deck at 902 feet. Seattle’s Space Needle, Elliott Bay, the Olympic Mountains, and Bellevue can all be seen in this sweeping vista of the greater Seattle area.

The 76-story, 1.5-million-square-foot Columbia Centre was developed by Martin Selig and finished in 1985. With 8,800 glass panes, 2,100 hydronic heat pumps, 48 lifts, and 6 escalators, this building is as cutting-edge as they come. Columbia Centre is one of the strongest and safest buildings in the Pacific Northwest thanks to the various technological advancements required for such a large-scale project, such as viscoelastic dampers and triangle-shaped bracing.
