Flowers play an important role in nature in a variety of ways: they supply food for insects, birds, animals, and humans; they may be used to make natural remedies for humans and some animals; and they can aid in a plant’s reproduction by attracting pollinators from other sources. Plants would be plain green if not for flowers, and the world would be a drabber place if not for flowers.

Veronica Gentianoides
It is propagated by spreading above-ground rhizomes that eventually form a mat of glossy green leaves that are clustered into rosettes, giving the plant its common name. Individual leaves are 2–8 cm (0.8–3.1 in) long and more or less oval in shape, with a length ranging from 0.8 to 3.1 in. It blooms in the early summer, producing narrow erect spikes (racemes) up to 30–40 cm (12–16 in) tall, with blue flowers that are 10–16 mm (0.4–0.6 in) across that are 10–16 mm (0.4–0.6 in) across. The species exhibits a great deal of variability. Flowers range in colour from practically white to deep blue; plants growing at high altitudes are significantly shorter, growing to only 5–10 cm (2–4 in) in height and with smaller leaves than those growing at lower elevations.
