About Meaco

Chris and Michelle Michael founded Meaco in 1991 to monitor and operate museum and art gallery equipment. Meaco and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London created the first radio-based environmental monitoring system in 1992. Over the following decade, Meaco became one of Europe’s leading providers of humidity monitoring and control technology to museums.

Mitsubishi Electric asked Meaco to be their UK exclusive dealer for portable dehumidifiers in 1999. This began a 20-year fruitful partnership. Chris and Michelle sold the museum in 2005 to focus on domestic dehumidifier sales, which were growing significantly.

In 2009, Meaco began manufacturing dehumidifiers using its experience working in museums, distributing Mitsubishi Electric, and listening to customers to ensure that each dehumidifier solves a problem and improves the user’s quality of life.

Meaco is a global player, exporting to 20+ nations in Europe, North America, and South Africa. 50% of company is exported, creating more UK employment. Suppliers, consumers, and rivals look to Meaco for quality and development. They have encouraged the industry to minimise dehumidifier energy use, and it has been encouraging to see many of Meaco rivals follow suit, resulting in cheaper power costs for clients.

Next was noise, where they achieved huge progress in 2018, and they continue to drive to minimise product noise without sacrificing energy usage. They eliminated all plastic hoses from Meaco dehumidifiers in 2019, saving 75,000 metres of garbage. This rose to 130,000 metres in 2020. They continue to encourage other firms to follow suit so Meaco can cut global plastic consumption by millions.

Meaco replaced hundreds of thousands of polystyrene container pieces with recyclable cardboard in 2020. This costs more and affects profitability, but it minimises environmental stress and should be done by all firms.

Meaco are proud to have won all of Which?, Good Housekeeping, QuietMark, and Stiftung Warentest’s awards for Meaco  products, but Meaco are even prouder of the daily feedback Meaco receive from customers about how much they appreciate their dedicated customer support team and how much their products help them in their daily lives.
