Why do we say sneakers?
The shoes, which were designed and manufactured in the early nineteenth century, were intended for use by the British Navy on their slick decks. Plimsolls were the name given to the shoes when they first appeared on the market in 1892. In order to distinguish them from other types of footwear, the sneakers were given the name “sneakers.”
