Simply put, we are the mobile network that is owned and operated by you, our members. And, to be honest, we’re big fans of simplicity. That is why we do not enter into contracts. We believe you should remain with us because you want to, rather than because you are required to do so.
Consider taking a look at our manifesto to learn more about what motivates us to get out of bed in the morning.
Back in 2008, a brilliant young man by the name of Gav Thompson realised that there was a better way to do mobile. He believed that a network could be operated without the use of call centres or high-street stores. And that it could be powered by members rather than customers, who would be rewarded for contributing to the good of the group as a whole.
It is from this location that the name Giffgaff UK derives. It is derived from a Scots phrase that means “mutual giving.” And it is this sense of belonging that permeates everything that we do.
From the beginning, we set out to be a little different, and this extends to the products and services we provide. As with any good community, you get something in return for your efforts and contributions.
As you’ve probably gathered by now, we’re big on community, and it’s one of the things that distinguishes us as the run by you network. Members can express themselves and assist others in our forums, propose new ideas in Labs, and create videos and guides for publication on our website. Like all good communities, we believe in communicating clearly and honestly while remaining flexible enough to accommodate the needs of all members.
Now it’s time to get down to business. Because we operate on the O2 network, we have standard 4G coverage. When travelling within the European Union, your phone will function exactly as it does at home, assuming you have brought along your travel adapter with you. Do you have any other questions? Inquire with them in the community or go directly to them for assistance.
Phew, that was a relief. Now for the important part.
