WHAT IS AN ELECTRIC HYBRID BIKE?
An electric hybrid bike is quicker on the road than the MTB and not as harsh to ride as the pure road bike. It combines the fast and agile nature of a road bike with the trail and comfort of an MTB in a single bike. Also, there is the advantage of having an electric assist system that comes in handy to complement the force being applied to the pedals.
The motor is small and is concealed at the rear hub or bottom bracket shell and the battery is housed in the downtube of the bike. Combined they can easily push the bike to the maximum speed of 15mph depending on the country’s laws regarding bikes. When the bike goes beyond this speed, the motor cuts off and the rider has to pedal, when the speed reduces to the set limit the motor kicks in. The motor never just starts and drives on its own, so the rider has to be in control at all times.
The motor system will have several pre-set levels of assistance and it is possible to change the level of assistance depending on the terrain or depending on the battery level. A control button is usually located on the top tube or on the handlebar and through the use of a button, one is able to choose the level of assistance needed when riding.
