Charity work and supporting local communities are integral to Ann’s Cottage, a family-run company. They continue Rob Harris’s legacy through donations to local organizations, even after his passing in 2021. Rob was deeply involved in charitable activities, supporting causes close to his heart.
The Cornwall Air Ambulance, credited with saving Rob’s daughter Sophie’s life after a severe car accident, is their main supported charity. They also support Cornwall Hospice Care, Macmillan, Surfers Against Sewage, and Children’s Hospice South West.
The Journey of Ann’s Cottage
The story began in 1978 with a small village store next to a gas station on Polzeath Beach, selling and renting out surfboards and wetsuits to the surfing pioneers. Mr. and Mrs. Harris opened the first Ann’s Cottage shop, providing a convenient location for beachgoers to purchase beachwear.
After the gas pumps were turned off in the late ’90s, Ann’s Cottage continued to thrive. The second shop opened in Wadebridge in 2003, followed by the third in Kingsley Village in 2006, marking the beginning of significant growth. By 2007, they had transitioned to online sales, launching annscottage.com, a milestone in their business journey.
With locations in Falmouth, Padstow, Newquay, and more, Ann’s Cottage has strategically placed shops in some of Cornwall’s most picturesque spots, reinforcing their position in the UK surf scene. Notable locations include the Fistral Beach stores, home to the world-renowned surfing centre.
The Cornwall Surf Centre, opened in 2010 in St. Columb, has become a major retailer of new season apparel and accessories. The centre’s location next to the St. Columb discount store has turned the area into a shopping mecca.
Expanding further, they opened a second shop in Padstow in 2013 and returned to Polzeath in 2017, establishing the largest range of wetsuits in Europe at the Polzeath Surf Centre.
Celebrating their 40th anniversary, they opened a new shop in Newquay in 2018, the heart of Cornwall’s surfing community. Despite the surprise, the Truro store, opened in 2019, brought coastal living to the high street, offering customers all the gear needed to surf.
Today, Ann’s Cottage stands as one of the largest dealers of surf apparel and accessories in Europe, a well-known household brand in Cornwall. From humble beginnings on Polzeath beach, they have grown to fourteen locations and an online storefront, all while maintaining their family-run charm and deep passion for the ocean. Their team of 150-200 experts is dedicated to providing exceptional service to every customer, living the surf lifestyle every day.
