Outdoor clothing, as we know it today, did not exist back in 1966. Then there’s BerghausUK, who changed everything.
Berghaus was founded in Newcastle, United Kingdom, in 1966 by Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison on the basis of a single idea. Berghaus began selling quality outdoor gear from a small shop called the LD Mountain Centre, which was located in Newcastle.
From the beginning, it has been our goal to create high-quality gear that is also technologically advanced. Our founders quickly established a reputation for selling the highest-quality outdoor clothing and equipment available, including Atomic Skis, Marker Bindings, and Nordica Ski, among other brands and products. The SCARPA walking boot, which has become synonymous with the company, was introduced to the UK market by them first.
The logical next step for Lockey and Davison was to design and build their own equipment. It didn’t take long before they started creating brand new outdoor clothing that was inspired by what climbers actually wanted and needed on the mountain. As a result, Berghaus was established.
Russacs were one of the first things our forefathers set out to change. Rucsacs were no longer considered to be a hindrance rather than an asset to the climbing experience. Lockey and Davison were well aware of the market’s existence, and from their brand new Berghaus factory in Washington, they set about creating the world’s first Berghaus rucsac – the Berg 172 – in just a few months.
After two years, Lockey and Davison’s work culminated in the Cyclops rucsac, which was the world’s first backpack with an internal frame and a revolutionary new way of carrying things. Finally, it became one of the most popular rucsac designs of all time – so popular, in fact; that a Cyclops variant is still available in our elite Extreme range today.
With many of their expeditions being confirmed as world firsts, our ambassadors have continued to take on mammoth challenges that push them to their physical and psychological limits. During the 2013 season, Leo Houlding led an international team to success on the first ascent of a major new route on Ulvetanna, a remarkable Antarctic peak (2930m). The mile-long north-east ridge of the mountain, widely considered to be the most difficult climb on the world’s most hostile continent, has been referred to as “one of the last great climbs” because of its difficulty. More recently, in 2017, he completed a ground-breaking ‘three in one’ polar expedition across Antarctica, which took him to the mountain known as Spectre, which he describes as “the most remote place on land on the face of the earth.”
A new generation of athletes has also emerged on the scene, with 23-year-old climber and Berghaus ambassador Anna Taylor becoming the first person in the world to complete a self-powered ascent of every climb listed in the classic ‘Classic Rock’ guidebook.
What Davison and Lockey set out to accomplish in 1966 continues to influence the products we make today. In 2019, we introduced our Dean Street collection, which pays homage to our hometown of Newcastle while also bringing back classic archive products.
The company has maintained its position as a global leader in the production of high-quality outdoor equipment designed to last. There are some things that will never change.
Women’s Affine Insulated Jacket – Black
The Affine Jacket is made from Bluesign® certified fabrics and is filled with recycled down, making it an environmentally friendly option for cold-weather walks and outdoor adventures. Several panels of lightweight insulation have been strategically placed to keep your core warm while not limiting your ability to move freely.
It’s super warm, but it’s also lightweight and stretchy. This jacket’s Hydroloft® recycled insulation allows it to fit your body like a glove.
A typical insulated jacket is made up of two layers: an outer layer (which can be either a hard or a soft shell) and an insulating layer that is built into the jacket from the beginning. This layer is typically made of a fleece, down, or synthetic material, all of which are excellent options for keeping warm in the cold.
Cooking with an insulated grill jacket is critical because it protects appliances and structures surrounding the grill from the excessive heat generated during cooking, allowing the outdoor area to remain cool while preventing a fire or warping. The undercarriage of the grill is also protected from rust and corrosion as a result of the use of these appliances.
If you compare the cost of synthetic insulation to down insulation, there are several advantages to synthetic insulation, including the ability to keep insulating when wet, greater breathability, and a generally lower price.

Men’s Logo Fleece Jacket – Grey
When it comes to outerwear, fleece jackets (also known as fleeces) are lightweight, casual jackets made of polypropylene synthetic wool, such as polar fleece. Rather than buttons or other fasteners, a fleece jacket will typically have a zipper running up the middle of the jacket.
The fact that it is not normally weatherproof means that it will not effectively keep out the wind and rain when used as a thermal insulation.
Polar fleece was first developed in Massachusetts in 1979 by Malden Mills (now Polartec LLC) and Patagonia, who called it Synchilla at the time (synthetic chinchilla).
It was a new type of pile fabric that was light and strong, and it was intended to mimic—and in some ways surpass—wool. Polar fleece was intentionally not patented by the company’s CEO, Aaron Feuerstein, in order to allow the material to be produced cheaply and widely by a large number of vendors, resulting in the material’s rapid and widespread acceptance.

Unisex Paviark Insulated Jacket – Black
Berghaus Paviark Jacket in a dark grey colour. With a full front zip and a stand-up collar, this design has a light padding throughout the entire body. There are elasticated cuffs on the long sleeves, as well as an elasticated waistband with a zipper closure and two concealed zip fastening pockets on the waist.
An item of clothing for the upper body that usually falls below the hips is referred to as a jacket.
An ordinary jacket will have sleeves and will be fastened in the front or slightly on the side. A jacket, which is considered outerwear, is typically lighter, tighter-fitting, and less insulating than a coat, which is considered outerwear. Some jackets are designed to be fashionable, while others are designed to be protective clothing. Vests are jackets that do not have sleeves.
The down jacket, also known as a puffer jacket or simply puffer in the fashion industry, is a quilted coat that is insulated with either duck or geese feathers. It is typically worn during the winter months. The air pockets created by the bulk of the feathers help to keep warm air in the feathers longer.
