Magda in Indonesia is struggling with the worst effects of the climate change, Rowena in the Philippines and her all-women disaster committee plant trees to reduce the effects of typhoons. Women are also demanding participation in the peace building processes in Yemen through women led organizations. These efforts prove how important and powerful women who take the lead in reconstructing a better world are.

Women in Emergencies: Protecting Communities

As it is known, women and girls are more vulnerable during crises. For instance, living in refugee camps means that there are no basic needs such as proper lighting or separate latrines, which are very dangerous in the current world. In emergency operations, Oxfam always ensures that women and girls are protected, have access to decent shelter, food, water, and health care.

After the latest earthquake crisis in Türkiye and Syria, it was Oxfam KEDV, a women-led organization, who stepped into respond to the necessity by integrating gender-sensitive approaches in short-term response and the subsequent reconstruction process as well.
