Their Journey: From Humble Beginnings to Wine Excellence
After launching The Great Wine Co. out of a friend’s garage in 1983, Philip Addis eventually relocated the business to Bath and began supplying local eateries with their wine. In 1985, they started to broaden their global contacts by importing wines such as Château du Donjon and Château du Vieux Parc. They launched a store in 1989 under Alan Nordberg’s management, enabling direct sales to customers. Their search for a permanent residence ended in 1992 when they moved to Wells Road. With the addition of Tom King as Fine Wine Manager and the launch of their first website in the year 2000, their delivery network expanded to four vehicles.
Their first online store went live in 2005, and they added Bogle Estate wines to their portfolio in 2004. In 2006, Viña Leyda wines were added, and in 2007, Ken Forrester wines were added. They honed down on retail after being acquired by Enotria Winecellars in 2010, when they offered renowned vineyards such as Trimbach and Planeta. They relaunched in 2020 under the name The Great Wine Co. and, despite the pandemic, their sales increased significantly because of their new website. With an emphasis on quality and worldwide reach, they will continue to provide the finest wines from all around the world as they celebrate 40 years in 2023.
