Founder Rivka was raised in New York City. It is not renowned for its expansive, verdant landscapes. However, she was captivated by cultivating avocado seeds from her local grocery store from an early age.

An event precipitated another. Rivka relocated to the United Kingdom. Additionally, she founded Faith In Nature in 1974.

They find themselves in the present day. It merely goes to demonstrate that the most minimal connection to nature can evoke profound emotions.

Natural, cruelty-free, and vegan practices were more of a one-man band in 1974 than a bandwagon. Alternatively, they have a one-woman ensemble. Rivka’s firm conviction that Faith In Nature transcends mere nomenclature—her ardour resides in leveraging the might of Nature while ensuring its preservation. Evidently, Rivka’s enthusiasm has now gained traction. Welcoming you to their universe, which is not entirely insane after all.

Sustainability Reimagined: A 40-Year Journey

Even though they’ve given sustainability a lot of thought for over 40 years, it still isn’t easy to discern what’s right. “What would Nature say?” is a basic question that Faith In Nature strives to remember when making these decisions.

Nature on the Board: Giving Mother Earth a Voice

Faith In Nature made history in August 2022 by appointing Nature to their board of directors. It seemed only fair to give Nature a voice and a vote in every decision they make since all their actions impact Nature in some way.

Thanks to Earth Law Centre and Lawyers For Nature, they successfully restructured the company to place the Rights of Nature at the heart of their operations. Someone wiser once said, “You have to act as the change you wish to see in the world.” This kind of systemic shift is essential for businesses to recognize Nature as an integral part of their operations, not just a resource.

Certified by B Corp: Respect for People and Planet

B Corps are businesses that have been independently evaluated to meet stringent criteria for social and environmental responsibility, openness, and accountability. It’s about companies prioritizing social and environmental responsibility alongside financial gain.

The B Corp movement aligns perfectly with everything Faith In Nature has done from the start. However, becoming a B Corp is no easy feat, especially for a manufacturing company. Since B Corp certification is only valid for three years, they will need to demonstrate continuous progress until 2026 when they may reapply.

Impact Reporting: Crunching the Numbers

Faith In Nature has been meticulously tracking its impact, recognizing that it is difficult to reduce global warming without understanding the extent of the problem. The inaugural Impact Report, released last year, outlined the primary areas where the company has made an influence. This year’s report is more detailed, thanks to an expanded reporting scope.

The new report provides comprehensive information about Faith In Nature’s water footprint, carbon footprint across scopes 1, 2, and 3, and preliminary findings on the company’s effect on biodiversity. It also highlights the incredible charity partners with whom Faith In Nature collaborates to revitalize and preserve Nature. Additionally, the report details how the company is influencing its supply chain to drive change.

Although there is still much to accomplish, there is already cause for celebration. For more details, the 2023 Sustainability Report can be accessed here.

Carbon Balanced: Balancing, Not Cancelling Out

Faith In Nature prefers the term “carbon balanced” over “carbon neutral.” Their partnership with the World Land Trust (WLT) helps them achieve this balance. They calculate their emissions, reduce what they can, and offset the remaining emissions through WLT’s carbon balancing program in Guatemala.

Every Order Plants a Tree: Partnering with TreeSisters

For every purchase, Faith In Nature plants a tree in partnership with TreeSisters. TreeSisters focuses on empowering women to lead the change through their portfolio of tropical reforestation projects, blending environmental and sociopolitical goals.

Tackling Plastic: Enough, Already

Since 1999, Faith In Nature’s 400 ml bottles have been recycled and recyclable, which is why they have that distinctive grey tint. They believe in making the most of existing plastics, although sourcing recycled materials is becoming increasingly challenging. They remain transparent with customers and continuously push for recycled content wherever possible.

Refill Revolution: Bulk is Beautiful

Faith In Nature has been filling large 5-liter bottles for decades, and sales have recently surged. Their 5-liter bottles hold the equivalent of 12.5 smaller bottles, significantly reducing plastic waste. Refilling at home or at refill stores makes a big difference.

Closing the Loop: They Want Their Bottles Back

Faith In Nature is committed to closing the loop on their products. They are currently trialing new methods to either wash and refill large format bottles or grind them down and remold them. For smaller bottles, refilling them repeatedly at home is the best approach.

Zero Waste: The Moon on a Stick

Faith In Nature strives to pass as little of the plastics problem to customers as possible. Their shampoo and conditioner bars achieve zero waste with no plastic, no sulfates, and no compromise on great hair days.

Simplifying Ingredients: Less, But Better

Faith In Nature keeps their ingredient lists brief to minimize impact. Rivka’s expertise as an aromatherapist and herbalist ensures their formulations are packed with effective plant benefits. They acknowledge the complexity of palm oil issues and strive for sustainable solutions.

Organic When Possible: Often, But Not Always

While not a certified organic product, Faith In Nature uses organic ingredients when possible. Since 1974, their goal has been to make natural products affordable for everyone, choosing the best quality, sustainable alternatives when organic options are not feasible.

Proudly Independent: Still a Family Business

Since 1974, Faith In Nature has been an independent company, free to make difficult decisions and stay true to their values. Rivka’s independent thinking and belief in accessible, ethical products laid the foundation for the company’s ongoing commitment to natural, cruelty-free, and sustainable products.
